Danajamin Mighty Run 2019 #Feelthespectrum Collected More Than RM65,000 For NASOM

SHAH ALAM, Sunday, 8 December 2019 – Danajamin Mighty Run 2019 (DMR 2019) #feelthespectrum was held today at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam, yet again garnered the support from over 1,600 participants at the event and collected more than RM65, 000. Danajamin Nasional Berhad’s (Danajamin) annual charity run is organized in support of autism awareness whereby proceeds from ticket sales go to The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).

DMR 2019 began with the warming up session with celebrity Yasmin Hani leading the participants through a piloxing routine. Later, Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA) music students played the percussion to hype up the atmosphere before the 10KM, 5Km and 1KM flag-off. Participants eagerly reacted to the sounding horns. Present at yesterday’s event was Commissioner Police Dato’ Azman Yusof, Police’s Secretariat Chief (research and development), Deputy Commissioner Police Datuk Dr Lee Bee Phang, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Danajamin Nasional Berhad, Encik Mohamed Nazri Omar, Chairman of NASOM, Puan Feilina Feisol and Encik Ismail bin Muhamed, Director of Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam.

In this year’s edition of DMR 2019, Danajamin introduced a new feature called ‘plogging’ in the 1KM category, which means picking up litter while jogging. Plogging is an ideal workout for those who are not strongly motivated to exercise and yet are able to have a feel-good factor of helping to clean the environment. A total of 5.01 kg weight of garbage filled with trash and dry leaves were collected by the participants in the 1KM category. Kudos to all! Participants are then recognized by having a ‘plogger’ mention on their e-certificate.

During the run, participants were also able to experience multi-sensory activities covering the four senses, this time relating to how and what those on the spectrum enjoy, find relaxing and therapeutic like catching and popping bubbles, running along the sound of music, a panelled arch reminding us how colours can have a different effect depending on whether a person is at the hypo or hyper end of the spectrum as well as diffusing essential oils which help to promote a calming environment.

“Beginning from last year we decided to collaborate with painters on the autism spectrum and showcase their artworks in our event collaterals designs such as on our event t-shirts, medals lanyard, and posters. In DMR2018, Danajamin collaborated with ArtJamila who is now internationally recognized in Switzerland as an Impact Artist 2019/2020. This year we have decided to work with Amira Daniea (Daniea), a 14 year old painter on the spectrum who was inspired to draw the KLCC Twin Towers when she came back from Dublin, Ireland 7 years ago. KLCC inspires her as she has a lot of happy memories there with her family,” said Encik Mohamed Nazri Omar.

He added that “Danajamin has been championing autism awareness and our aim is to assist the underserved community by providing them with opportunities to grow within the wider community, in line with our mandate to help underserved companies grow.”

Contributions from the previous Danajamin Mighty Run 2016, 2017 and 2018 have since benefited NASOM and its students including to name a few, an upgraded Vocational Centre in Bandar Puteri, Kelang, a Snoezelen Room facility at their Early Intervention Centre in Gombak, funding training and seminars to ensure that all trainers at NASOM centers are certified trainers on the Special Education, Pre-Vocational and Occupational Therapy and many more.

The event finished around 10.30am and all runners received a finisher medal, a foldable lightweight backpack and e-certificate for their participation. Top 3 Winners of 10 KM Women, Men, Women (Open) and Men (Open) Category each received mock cheque and cash vouchers.

The Danajamin Mighty Run 2019 has grown year-to-year in their branding presence encouraging more people on autism awareness and autism acceptance via its message of #feelthespectrum.

Danajamin is the organizer of the annual CSR event, and this year’s DMR 2019 has received good support from other organizations such as Polis Diraja Malaysia, McDonalds and Sunway Putra Mall who also run autism programmes.
