PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR, 17 JUNE 2015 – Students of SK Petaling (1) now have a chance at a brighter and clearer future, thanks to Danajamin Nasional Berhad’s spectacles programme.
An initiative under the Danajamin Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Danajamin distributed 70 prescription spectacles to Year 5 and 6 students of SK Petaling (1) at a ceremony today. The spectacles were given free of cost to the students. Danajamin teamed up with Focus Point Vision Care Group, who had provided the spectacles at a discounted rate and also conducted eye examinations on the students.
Earlier last month, Focus Point was engaged to carry out eye examinations on the school children. It was discovered that 70 out of 112 Year 5 and Year 6 students required prescription spectacles.
Since the inception of the spectacles programme in 2014, Danajamin has assisted 167 students with their eyesight problem. The spectacle programme is part of a strategic and holistic educational campaign aimed at raising the academic performance of Year 6 students of SK Petaling (1). Apart from the spectacles programme, Danajamin has also carried out motivational talks, and study camps for the Year 6 students. Danajamin had adopted SK Petaling (1) back in 2013 under the PINTAR school adoption programme.
Norhanifah Abd Jalil, the Director of Human Capital and Communications who is also Danajamin CSR Council Advisor said, “This spectacles programme is just one of the many initiatives that Danajamin has carried out in its efforts to improve the learning experience and academic excellence in SK Petaling (1). When we launched the Spectacles programme in 2014, we were shocked to find out that more than 50% of the students required prescription spectacles. But the 2014 UPSR results showed a marked improvement from 2013 and we are happy that the spectacles programme, combined with our other educational initiatives, have been effective.
We see so much potential, academic and leadership wise, in the students of SK Petaling (1) and we remain committed to providing them with the tools to access to a better and brighter future.”
Apart from the school adoption and spectacles programs, another signature CSR initiative launched by Danajamin is the Danajamin100 Leadership Enrichment Program targeted for selected secondary students from PINTAR schools in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. A 3-year leadership enrichment programme, Danajamin100 puts its students through a structured leadership and character building training that will maximize their leadership potential. As at to- date, the first batch comprising of 30 students are currently in their 2nd year and the 2nd batch is targeted to be launched later in November 2015.
Norhanifah concluded that the aim of the CSR signifies Danajamin’s commitment to make both small and giant steps towards the creation of a better society, as well as the Danajamin’s intention for all its initiatives to pave the way for others to emulate in order to help reconcile the socio economic conditions of the society in the country via Education & Children.
